Our Story

Sapphire Counseling got its name not because all the cool growth metaphors were taken (which they were), but because a sapphire symbolizes intelligence, education, and the ability to make wise decisions. The Greeks wore sapphires for wisdom, while ancient Persians used them medicinally to strengthen the heart and bestow courage. So, when you receive support from one of the counselors at Sapphire Counseling, we aim to impart clinical wisdom to improve decision-making and help you leave with a stronger heart.

I’m Hannah, the founder and clinical director of Sapphire Counseling, and I absolutely love being a therapist. While it was never what I anticipated (I am a self-proclaimed accidental CEO, a title I don’t even own), I have really enjoyed being able to grow a practice of counselors that can authentically support our community in ways I do with my own clients. I’ve worked with diverse individuals in a variety of settings for a decade, and I opened this practice to offer authentic, “no-fluff” therapy. We get into the real, gritty parts of life and do the hard work, together.

I am a relational therapist at my core, meaning I focus on genuine connection, empathy, and mutual growth in the rapport I build with my clients. When we are practicing skill-building, I often lean into cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), teaching practical strategies clients can apply in real life. While these approaches ground my work, I ultimately use a person-centered, integrative lens to make sure each client feels seen and supported. I’m passionate about helping clients reach their full potential and I believe that will always start and be sustained through an authentic, healing connection.

In addition to my clinical work, I provide clinical supervision to social workers working toward licensure, which has become one of the most rewarding parts of my career. I love helping newer clinicians build confidence, develop their own authentic therapeutic voice, and grow into the kind of therapist they want to be. I’m also passionate about speaking at conferences and trainings focused on mental health, authenticity, and practical interventions that clinicians can genuinely use in the therapy room. I enjoy creating presentations tailored to specific audiences and events, as long as there’s a mental health intersection involved.

I recently had the opportunity to share more about my approach and the work we do at Sapphire in International Business Times.

Outside the office, you’ll usually find me with my husband and our two amazing littles, spending time as a family or with our village of friends. When I get a rare moment to myself, I love to exercise, build Lego sets, binge a good show, or escape into a book.
